Adwords Advertising

By: Allen Bohart

Adwords advertising has become the 800 lb gorilla in the pay per click (PPC) advertising world. New people are signing up for accounts with Google to give it a try. Unfortunately, just as many people are pausing and deleting their Adwords advertising campaigns every day because their budget has run out way faster than they ever expected.

Google Adwords is a deceptively simple advertising medium that is so powerful, it can get you into trouble financially long before you ever meet your advertising goals. With just a headline, two small lines of text and a URL, how hard can it be to get your Adwords advertising right? The answer is: very difficult.

The simplicity of the Adwords advertising medium hides a world of complexity beneath it. For starters Adwords advertising campaigns have a completely different goal than most advertising. In conducting an Adwords advertising campaign, your goal is to entice people to click your advertisement, not to sell them something. To further complicate things, you must draw the right people to click on your ads, people who will be interested in your product or service.

Aside from getting the right people to click, Adwords advertising is difficult because of the way in which the ads are positioned to be shown to Google users. First, you must know that Adwords advertising is not positioned simply by who pays the most for their ad. In fact, it is very likely that the top ranking Adwords ads are NOT the most expensive. The top ranking Adwords advertising is put there because of relevancy. In short, the more relevant your ad is to a particular set of keywords in a search, the higher your ad will be in the results. In some extreme cases, an Adwords advertiser who paid two cents for their ad has been shown higher than one who has paid a dollar!

As difficult as it might be, Adwords advertising remains the most powerful advertising medium on the Internet today. Because of this, it is well worth the time and effort invested for any Internet marketer to learn the ins and outs of Adwords advertising. With the right knowledge, Adwords advertising can be highly profitable and rewarding.
